BIO

Andrew McIntosh, Professor of Biological Psychiatry at the University of Edinburgh, is an outstanding clinician scientist who has spent his career developing resources to generate and facilitate research in depression. His research has advanced how depression is conceptualised and where its boundaries with other conditions lie, as well as informing guidelines on how depression should be studied and treated. He leads a team of depression researchers in the UK and Malawi developing a Malawian longitudinal birth cohort study and strengthening mental healthcare systems in the region. He remains committed to his NHS work as a clinical psychiatrist and to the translation of research findings into more effective treatments.
