BIO

David Roberts is Professor of Haematology at the University of Oxford. He has made seminal contributions to our understanding of the pathology of human malaria by defining for the first time clonal antigenic variation of the protein family expressed on the surface malaria-infected erythrocytes. He has enhanced transfusion medicine with a succession of original and outstanding experimental and clinical studies which have led to improvements in diagnostics and care of patients. His work exemplifies how a lifelong dedication to understanding the pathophysiology of disease can be translated into clinical trials and patient care which have provided considerable benefits to donor and patient care nationally and internationally.
