BIO

Jie Qiao, Academician of Chinese academy of engineering, Academician of American Academy of Arts and Sciences(IHM), Executive Vice Deputy Director of Peking University Health Science Center, President of Peking University Third Hospital,Professor of Peking University Third Hospital, graduated from Beijing Medical University (Peking University Health Science Centre) in 1990, and obtained her PhD degree at Beijing Medical University in 1996.

Early in 2002-2003, she has spent 1 year on her Postdoctoral training in Stanford University Medical Center, U.S. As a visiting fellow, she has finished her training in Queen Mary Hospital of the University of Hong Kong. In 2017, she was elected as a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

Dr. Qiao is a chief scientist of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China Grants (National 973 program), and a leading expert of the ‘Reproductive Cell Development’ program that was funded by Creative Research Groups Program of the National Natural Science Foundation. Currently, Dr. Qiao serves as  Director of the National Clinical Research Center on Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBYGN) Disease, National Center for Healthcare Quality Management in Obstetrics, President of China Women Doctors Association, Chair for the Reproductive Medical Society of Chinese Medical Doctor Association, Chief editor of 《Human Reproduction Update (Chinese version)》,《BMJ Quality & Safety (Chinese version)》and Special Consultant《NEJM Medical frontier》.

Dr. Qiao has been working on reproductive biology and the pathology of infertility since 1990. Her reproductive research focus on the molecular mechanism of human gametogenesis and embryo development, infertility causes and clinical treatments, the protection and preservation of female fertility as well as developing new pre-implantation diagnosis methods. Qiao has led the team to achieve a number of technical and theoretical breakthroughs in the systematic study of human embryonic development and team made many landmark contributions to the development of reproductive medicine. Her team first constructed the high-resolution recombination positioning genetic map of women in the world and profiled the transcriptome and DNA methylome of human pre-implantation embryos and germ cell, providing new insights into the mechanism of epigenetic regulation during embryo development. After long-term investigation of genomics, proteomics and metabolomics analysis of polycystic ovary syndrome, she has established metabolic forecasting model and built up a diagnostic criteria of hirsutism applied for Chinese women. Her team developed a new non-invasive method to assess the endometrial receptivity, which significantly increased the pregnancy rate in patients with recurrent implantation failure. She has published more than 200 SCI papers as the first or corresponding author, including Cell, Nature, Science,JAMA, Lancet, etc.

She was supported by National Science Fund for the Distinguished Young Scholar and is Cheung Kong Scholar Chair Professor. She is the chief editor of 19 textbooks and monographs, and has been granted 6 patents. She won the National Scientific and Technological Progress Second Prize as the first investigator twice, University of Science and Technology Progress First Prize for three times, Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress of the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Awards, etc.

Professor Qiao’s research interests focus on the molecular mechanism of human gametogenesis and embryo development, infertility causes and clinical treatments., assessing the safety of assisted reproductive technology and developing new pre-implantation diagnosis methods.
