BIO

Sam Janes, Professor of Respiratory Medicine at University College London, has built an internationally unique team working in early lung cancer pathogenesis. He found smoking cessation results in altered clonal dynamics favouring lower mutated cells. This discovery impacts the previously unexplored cell-cell variation in mutations from toxins, and the global public impact as a positive reason to quit smoking. His diagnostic and early detection trial SUMMIT was the largest recruiting trial in the UK in 2019, delivering CT screening to 13,000 people in London exploring the benefits of CT screening and developing a pan-cancer blood test that will influence global health care for years to come.
