BIO

Susan Ozanne, Professor of Developmental Endocrinology at the University of Cambridge, is an internationally recognised leader in the field of developmental programming where her research is at the forefront of studies aimed at understanding the underlying mechanisms by which nutrition in early life impacts on long-term health. She was the first to demonstrate that nutrition during pregnancy had a major impact on the lifespan of the offspring. She demonstrated that metformin treatment of human gestational diabetes reduces offspring birth weight and leads to accelerated postnatal growth compared to insulin treatment and that these effects are independent of maternal glycaemic control. These findings have major translational implications.
