BIO

Anthony Marson, Professor of Neurology at the University of Liverpool, has made an outstanding contribution to epilepsy research and is a world leading authority on the management of epilepsy which affects 50 Million people worldwide. His work has influenced the current management of epilepsy, including: when to start treatment with an anti-seizure medication; choice of first treatment for focal, generalised and unclassified epilepsy; effectiveness of add-on treatments in refractory epilepsy; safety of anti-seizure medications in pregnancy; risk stratification to inform driving policy following a first seizure, anti-seizure medication withdrawal and after recommencing treatment. He has also enabled the development of brain imaging research in Liverpool and has made key contributions to international consortia untangling the genetic architecture of the epilepsies.
