BIO

Zhanfeng Cui, Donald Pollock Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Oxford, is an internationally leading biomedical engineer specialising in bioprocessing and biochemical engineering design. He invented TissueFlex, a multiple parallel perfused microbioreactor technology enabling more quantifiable, reproducible and physiologically relevant experimentation transforming studies of cell function and drug testing. This platform has had major impact in drug discovery research and development through faster and more accurate organ-on-a chip technology for in vitro drug discovery and toxicity testing. He developed the third generation of loop mediated isothermal amplification for a rapid and point of care test for Covid 19 within six months. The test has been used at major UK airports, and by the UK government ‘test to release’ scheme.
